That glass bottle in your fridge? It’s done this before.

Our cream-top milk travels in reusable glass that gets returned, washed, and refilled an average of five times per bottle. More than 2.75 million bottles come back to us every year, which means millions of containers that never see a landfill.

But the sustainability story starts even before the bottle. Our milk comes from 13 certified organic family farms in Marin and Sonoma Counties, most of them within a short drive of each other along the Northern California coast. Short supply chains, multi-generational farmers, pastures that have been tended organically for decades. The land here is part of the product.

We didn’t build this model for Earth Day. We built it in 1994 because it was the right way to make dairy. Thirty-two years later, we’re still at it.

Regenerative agriculture is one of those terms that can sound abstract until you see what it actually means on a working farm. For the organic family farms that supply our milk, it looks like this: the herd rotates through pastures on a roughly 30 day cycle, never overgrazing a section. Compost goes back into the soil each season, building organic matter and water retention. Perennial grasses develop deeper root systems year over year. The result is land that gets more productive over time, not less, and farming that restores rather than depletes.

Meet the Camozzis. Eugene, Christine, and their daughters Kate, Kelley, and Maria have been farming the same Sonoma County land their great-grandfathers settled over a century ago. Valley View Dairy is now part of our family of farms, and we couldn’t be more proud to have them. 2,000 acres of certified organic pasture, 500 happy Holsteins, and three generations of knowing exactly what good farming looks like.
