Brand Marketing Director

POSITION:             Brand Marketing Director (BMD)
DEPARTMENT:     Sales and Marketing

JOB OBJECTIVE: The Brand Marketing Director will be a critical member of the Straus Family Creamery (SFC) Sales & Marketing team and be the marketing function’s representative to the company’s Senior Leadership Team, comprised of Directors from across functions including sales, manufacturing, quality, research and development, sustainability and operations.  

The BMD will support the VP of Sales & Marketing and the Executive Team in the day to day management of the SFC business, taking a holistic view of the business, with a depth of marketing understanding and expertise.  This role will be pivotal in helping the organization to gain better understanding of our consumers, our customers, our competitors, and our own business performance through thoughtful evaluation and synthesis of insights, observations and data.   This individual will develop and lead the execution of plans that will help SFC further its mission and meet its business goals.


  • Lead the development of SFC’s annual marketing plan to help achieve Company Mission and annual business targets.  Lead execution of marketing plans, including results measurement to inform future programs and priorities 
  • Enhance and develop SFC organizational capabilities.  Coach, mentor and develop direct report (marketing manager) and other team members across Sales & Marketing.  Identify best practices and find appropriate ways to incorporate them into our way of doing business
  • Lead a packaging redesign initiative across entire SFC product line.  Manage packaging design agency in this effort and coordinate any relevant consumer validation research in conjunction with this packaging change 
  • Lead new product strategy and process development and documentation.   Collaborate with Director of R&D to develop an innovation pipeline to support SFC’s future/short term/long term growth plans 
  • Lead development of an initial consumer research plan for SFC – key questions and proposed methodologies for increasing understanding of consumers, retailers and new business opportunities.   Execute against this plan, identifying key insights and actions that help us leverage our new knowledge
  • Lead development of fact based sales stories, ensuring that sales team is well-equipped with appropriate insights, data and communication tools to help our customers (distributors, retailers, restaurants/small businesses, etc.) build their business together with SFC
  • Identify opportunities for retailer collaboration and co-marketing.   Work with Retail Sales Director to leverage such opportunities with key retailers, toward mutually beneficial results
  • Develop process for and lead the execution of quarterly brand reviews, including competitive intelligence gathering and the establishment of and measurement against quantifiable business goals  
  • Manage relationship with SPINS and any other syndicated data services  
  • Collaborate with finance and sales planning team on creation and evolution of a monthly business review process
  • Budget development, management and forecasting

General Administration:

  • Ensure areas of responsibility are kept neat and clean
  • Must comply with all health, safety, security and emergency requirements that are communicated to you, whether established by their manager, by the company or by law
  • Must work in a safe manner and communicate any safety hazard to a member of management
  • Must comply with all Company policies communicated to you through your Employee Manual, trainings, team huddles, notice boards or other postings, or by a member of management 
  • Must participate in weekly team meetings, safety meetings, and other Company meetings, as requested 
  • Must ensure work is produced in most sustainable manner, in accordance with Company Mission and Values 
  • Other responsibilities as requested


Education and Experience:

  • BA in Communications, Marketing, or Business Administration, required
  • MBA, preferred
  • Food industry experience strongly preferred
  • 5 - 8 years of experience in traditional CPG brand marketing with a demonstrated progression of responsibilities and a track record of accomplishments 
  • Passion for organics industry, sustainability, and responsible business, strongly desired
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Experience in new product development, including strategy and cross-functional execution 
  • Experience leading market research initiatives, and familiarity with market research fundamentals
  • Experience translating data to insights and insights to proposed actions 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Strong grasp of marketing fundamentals – 4Ps, consumer research, marketing strategy, marketing plan development, etc.
  • Financial acumen and experience with syndicated data (IRI, Nielsen or SPINS)
  • A general management mind-set and ability to take a total enterprise view of the business
  • Leadership capabilities – ability to coordinate and motivate a team to achieve results
  • Passion for developing people and teams, and building organizational capabilities
  • Self-starter; able to work with minimal supervision, take initiative, and exhibit sound judgment
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to be applied across a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability and desire to apply knowledge and experience base from prior job(s) to the smaller-company, smaller-budget environment of SFC
  • Strong project management skills 
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation-based communications skills
  • Proven computer skills, including experience using  Microsoft Office Suite


  • Extended periods of working on a computer and looking at the computer screen 
  • Extended periods of sitting
  • Short periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and stooping, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, hands, and fingers  – repetitive at times
  • Ability to sort through solid waste produced by office and Creamery operations
  • Senses of being able to see, hear and have full power of speech are required
  • Ability to climb stairs and balance
  • Temperatures range from 15 to 100 degrees and can be in high humidity conditions
  • Noise produced by machinery up to 40 decibels
  • Ability to lift, hold and/or carry 10 pounds unassisted
  • Flexibility to work different shifts when required
