The True Cost of American Food Conference Videos
The True Cost of American Food conference, which took place April 14-17, 2016 in San Francisco, brought together a wide range of leaders and interested citizens to address one of the most critical barriers currently preventing sustainable food systems becoming mainstream – the failure to recognize the true costs of producing food in different ways. The Sustainable Food Trust has shared videos from the conference, beginning with the opening sessions featuring Patrick Holden, Wendy Schmidt, Jonathan Foley, Tyler Norris and HRH the Prince of Wales.
On Day 2 of the conference, Straus Family Creamery Founder and CEO, Albert Straus, participated in a case study analysis of US farming systems, led by Dr. Harpinder Sandhu. The other farmers included in this study were Jim Erdahl, a corn/soy farmer in Minnesota, and Joel Salatin, a diversified meat and poultry farmer in Virginia. In this video, Dr. Sandhu presents the results of his groundbreaking research exploring the true cost of American food.
Another important presentation came from Tyler Norris, Vice President for Total Health Partnerships at Kaiser Permanente. Norris gives an overview of the evidence of the harmful outcomes of intensive agriculture on public health, and why the current economic climate perpetuates these systems of production.
