PETALUMA — The leadership Straus Family Creamery demonstrated 21 years ago by becoming the first certified 100 percent organic creamery in the U.S. and the first organic dairy west of the Mississippi has carried over into the company’s concern for social causes and the founder’s vision of environmentalism and sustainability.

The creamery, established in 1994 and located at 1105 Industrial Ave. in Petaluma, is a model of collaboration, working with nine family farms and dairies to bring 94 unique products to the North Bay community, while providing jobs and upward mobility for a diverse workforce of approximately 130 individuals that is 80 to 90 percent Latino. Some 60 percent of the company’s business is conducted in California, another 25-30 percent of its market is between the Rocky Mountains and the West Coast. [...]
