Here we are! Here we are!

A beautiful Spring day at the farm

A typical Summer day... not too sunny!
Since William Straus started raising dairy cows in 1941 we've been located in Marshall, CA along the shores of Tomales Bay
Our neighbor to the west, across Tomales Bay, is the Point Reyes National Seashore. Our neighbors to the east are Petaluma and Novato.
People are always asking..."Where's Marshall?" We usually start with San Francisco and work our way up the list of cities that people recognize until we get that "Huh?" look from people.
We tell people we're by Tomales Bay, but that doesn't always ring a bell. Point Reyes National Seashore? "Oh...yeah, that's really nice out there." Yes, it is.
It's where the wind blows off the Pacific Ocean. With virtually no pollution from traffic or factories; the area is a pristine piece of paradise for those who live out here. However, the seasons can be confusing. During summer, for example, the air is cooled by daily (sometimes constant) fog and the grass is all dried up. The cows love the cool air. Winter is cool, lush green, foggy and wet. Cows love it out here. So do we.
If you'd like to come visit the farm we offer tours through the Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT), the first agricultural land trust in the nation, the one that Ellen Straus co-founded with environmentalist Phyllis Faber. However, we only offer farm tours from April through September, due to weather conditions. For safety reasons, no visitors under the age of 10 are allowed. MALT continues to be an essential part to keeping families farming and thriving in Marin County. We urge you to find out more about their great work by visiting their website www.malt.org.
