GM AlfalfaPasture Rule![]() | Policy When Albert Straus founded Straus Family Creamery in 1994, he also converted his family’s dairy to organic. Being the first to do so in the Western United States at a time when many people did not know what organic meant came with the responsibility to help define the policies around it. Over the years, he has continued the legacy of his parents, Bill and Ellen Straus, who helped launch a conservation movement that permanently saved tens of thousands of acres of agricultural land. Over the last sixteen years, he has attended hundreds of meetings with other members of the organic community to craft organic legislation and regulations to maintain the integrity of organic standards.
